BURNABY, British Columbia – Three former and three current members of the Washington State University rowing team are competing at the Canada Cup at Burnaby Lake, Nov. 7-12.
All six are competing in the women's pair. In the first day of racing, Nicole Hare, partnered with fellow-Olympian, Christine Roper, and finished second as part of Row Ontario C crew. Another Olympian and former WSU rower, Lisa Roman, teamed up with Kristin Bauder to place third as Row Ontario B. Both those crews advanced straight to the A/B Finals, as the top six advanced and the rest moved on to the Repechage heats.
Another former Washington State rower, Morgan Cathrea, teamed with Olivia King as Rowing British Columbia C, placed fourth, also advancing to the A/B Semifinals. Current Cougar rowers, Ivy Elling Quaintance and Emily Thomson paired up to form Rowing Ontario/Rowing British Columbia F. The duo placed eighth, then won its Repechage heat to move on to the A/B Semifinals.
Cougar freshman, Emma Gribbon, placed 19th in the women's pair as one half of the Rowing British Columbia I crew, along with Danae McCulloch. They moved to the Repechage heats, but were unable to advance to finals.
Hare, Roman, Cathrea, Elling Quaintance and Thomson will compete Friday in the A/B Semifinal races beginning at 10 a.m.
