CHARLESTON, S.C. – Washington State freshman Michaela Bayerlova posted a three-set victory in Saturday's semifinal to advance to the championship match of the ITF Charleston tournament at the LPT Tennis Club.
Bayerlova jumped out to a fast start against qualifier Anna Turati, taking the first set 6-1. In that set, she broke Turati three times while winning all eight points in which she connected on her first serve. Turati rebounded in the second, taking the set 6-3. The third set, however, belonged to the Cougar freshman. Bayerlova again broke serve three times while winning 13 of 18 points on her serve.
With the win, Bayerlova advances to her second tournament final since June, when she captured the title at the Alkmaar Futures event in Alkmaar, Netherlands. She will face the top-seeded Montserrat Gonzalez of Paraguay, who is ranked 438 in the world. The match is scheduled for Sunday morning.
