Bayerlova Highlights Two Cougars in Preseason Rankings

WSU freshman tennis player Michaela Bayerlova is ranked No. 3 among freshmen/newcomers in the ITA preseason rankings.

PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State freshman tennis player Michaela Bayerlova is ranked No. 3 among freshmen/newcomers in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason rankings, released Tuesday. Additonally, junior Tiffaney Mylonas is ranked No. 90 in the ITA Preseason Singles poll.
 
Bayerlova, from Krumbach, Germany, is the first Cougar to be ranked in the freshman/newcomer poll, which began in the fall of 2010. She current holds a world ranking of 740 after finished the 2016 season at 780. Bayerlova competed in the International Tennis Federation Las Vegas event earlier this week, reaching the second round of qualifying.
 
Mylonas, from Brussels, Belgium, is WSU's first ranked player for preseason singles since 2014, when junior Elizaveta Luzina entered the year ranked No. 66. Mylonas transferred to WSU prior to this season from the University of Louisiana, Monroe, where she posted a 30-5 singles record as a sophomore.
 
Washington State begins its fall tournament schedule Sept. 22 at the UNLV Fall Invitational.
