PULLMAN, Wash. - Just one week into the new year Cougars' goalkeeper, redshirt-junior Ella Dederick, has been recognized for her play on the field as the WSU captain took home the first Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week award as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. The weekly award was the second career award for Dederick who also won the award as a freshman.
Despite playing just one game over the weekend, Dederick did enough to catch the eye of the conference as the third-year starter was perfect Friday night in what would be a double-overtime thriller against No. 19 Minnesota. Facing off against the reigning Big 10 champions, Dederick not only stymied the opposition's attack for 90 minutes of regulation, but tacked on an extra 20 minutes of overtime action for good measure. In all, Dederick faced 14 shots while making three saves to post her first shutout of the season and eighth of her career.
The Cougs and Dederick will hit the pitch Friday night, Aug. 25, at home against Saint Mary's before heading to No. 24 Santa Clara Sunday afternoon for their first road contest of the season.
