PULLMAN, Wash. – The Cougar offense threw 10 touchdowns and rushed for two more in the first scrimmage of the fall at Martin Stadium Friday evening. The defense tallied nine sacks and picked off one pass.
Redshirt-senior quarterback tossed five touchdowns, redshirt-sophomore Tyler Hilinski threw for three scores and redshirt-sophomore Trey Tinsley added two more touchdown throws. On the ground, WSU tallied 179 yards with 91 yards and two touchdowns coming from redshirt-sophomore James Williams who also added a 37-yard reception. Junior wideout Tavares Martin Jr. made eight catches for 43 yards and three scores while sophomore Isaiah Johnson-Mack produced six receptions for 83 yards and a score. Redshirt-seniors C.J. Dimry and Jamal Morrow each caught two touchdowns while redshirt-junior Keith Harrington turned a shovel-pass into a 47-yard score.
On defense, redshirt-freshman linebacker Dillon Sherman and freshman safety Josh Talbott led the way with five tackles. Junior cornerback Darrien Molton and freshman corner Zaire Webb each added four stops while sophomore safety Jalen Thompson made four tackles and picked off a Luke Falk pass. Redshirt-junior defensive lineman Hercules Mata'afa led the way with 1.5 sacks.
Washington State will have Saturday off before resuming practice Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
