Cougar Tennis Receives ITA Academic Award

The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2016-2017 season.

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2016-2017 season. Additionally, student-athletes Barbora Michalkova and Aneta Miksovska were also recognized for their academic accomplishments.
 
During the 2016-17 season, the Cougars earned a 3.35 team grade point average, as the team earned the ITA Academic Award for the 11th consecutive season. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.
 
Michalkova, a rising senior from As, Czech Republic, concluded her junior year with a 3.49 GPA as a sport management major. Playing at the top of the WSU lineup, she posted 12 singles victories, including a win over Yuliya Shupenia of DePaul, the nation's 87th-ranked player. She capped her season by being named to the 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team.
 
Miksovska, a rising junior from Stramberk, Czech Republic, completed her sophomore season with a 3.83 grade point average while studying kinesiology. She posted a 19-10 singles on the season, playing at both the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Midway through conference play, she had back-to-back wins over nationally ranked players Kelley Anderson of ASU (#88) and Paris Corley of Arizona (#113). She was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team at the conclusion of the season.
