EUGENE, Ore. -- Washington State hammer thrower Brock Eager and intermediate hurdler CJ Allen earned All-America second team honors Wednesday at the NCAA DI Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene.
Eager, a redshirt sophomore from Renton, Wash., finished 14th after first round throws of 217-feet 1 inch (66.16m) and 216-6 (65.99m) after opening with a fouled throw. Eager's lifetime-best throw of 225-3 (68.66m) was thrown earlier this year at the Cougar Invitational meet in Pullman. His PR mark is the fourth-best hammer throw in WSU's all-time records and the first time in 18 years a new mark had been added to the school's top 10 rankings. Cornell's Rudy Winkler won the men's hammer with a throw of 243-2 (74.12m). With his 14th-place finish, Eager earns All-America second team honors.
Allen, a senior from Allyn, Wash., ran the first heat of the men's 400m hurdles semifinals in a time of 49.44 seconds and was edged out of the second-place automatic qualifying position at the finish line by Texas A&M's Robert Grant who ran a time of 49.43. Allen finished ninth in the semifinals with only the top eight advancing to the Friday night final. Allen's lifetime-best time of 49.40, run at the NCAA West Region Prelims two weeks ago, is third-best in WSU all-time records. Allen finished 12th at the 2016 NCAA Championships. This is his second All-America second team certificate.
Alissa Brooks-Johnson, a redshirt junior from Doty, Wash., will compete in the women's heptathlon which takes place Friday and Saturday.
