WSU Heptathletes Perform Well at Mt. SAC/California Invite

AZUSA, Calif. -- Washington State's Alissa Brooks-Johnson is in fourth place and Liz Harper is in sixth place at the Mt. SAC Relays/California Invitational heptathlon being held at Azusa Pacific University.

Competing in the elite Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) Relays Invitational heptathlon, Brooks-Johnson, a redshirt junior from Doty, Wash., completed the first four events with a score of 3,350 points, just six points from her first day PR set in 2015, the year she won the Pac-12 heptathlon title. Brooks-Johnson ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.13 seconds, high jumped 5-feet 6 1/2 inches (1.69m), threw the shot put a distance of 39-3 (11.96m), and ran the 200m in 24.96.
 
Harper, a senior from Missoula, Mont., has 3,270 points after four events. She opened the day with a 100m hurdles time of 14.33 and followed with a clearance in the high jump of 5-7 3/4 (1.72m). Harper then threw the shot put a PR distance of 36-5 1/2 (11.11m) and finished the first day with a 200m wind-aided time of 25.33.
 
Former Cougars track and field assistant coach and Canadian Olympian, Angela Whyte, leads the 17-woman elite competition with a score of 3,524 points.
 
In the California Invitational heptathlon, Lindsey Schauble (sophomore, Kennewick, Wash.) is in 24th place (out of 55 competitors) after the first day with a PR total of 2,882 points. Schauble opened with a PR time in the 100m hurdles in 14.99, high jumped a 5-1 3/4 (1.57m) which equals her PR, and threw a PR mark in the shot put of 34-3 (10.44m). She ran the 200m in a wind-aided time of 26.20.
 
These WSU women will conclude their heptathlon competition Thursday while other Cougar track and field athletes will begin competition at the Mt. SAC Relays, being held this year at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif.
