PULLMAN, Wash. -- Liz Harper won the women's pentathlon Friday night at the Cougar Indoor/Multis meet at the Washington State University Indoor Practice Facility.
Harper, a senior from Missoula, Mont., won the eight-woman pentathlon with a score of 3,876 points followed by her teammate, Lindsey Schauble (sophomore, Kennewick, Wash.) with a score of 3,413 points. Harper's personal-best pentathlon score is 4,146 points, tallied last year.
Harper opened with a 60m hurdles time of 8.62 seconds, high jumped 5-feet, 5 3/4 inches (1.67m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 37-11 1/2 (12.57m), long jumped 17-7 1/2 (5.37m) and ran the 800m in a time of 2 minutes 23.93 seconds. Schauble clocked in a 60m hurdles time of 9.19, cleared 5-2 1/4 (1.58m) in the high jump, threw the shot put 32-10 1/4 (10.01m), long jumped 17-3 1/4 (5.26m), and ran the 800m in a time of 2:31.95.
Brock Eager (junior, Renton, Wash.) won the men's 35-pound weight throw with a mark of 63-5 (19.33m). Adam Mahama was third with a toss of 56-9 1/4 (17.30m).
Kristine Felix (redshirt senior, Wailuku, Hawai'i) won the women's pole vault after clearing13-5 1/4 (4.10m).
Josh Schulz (freshman, Pe Ell, Wash.) won the men's long jump with a leap of 22-3 3/4 (6.80m).
In the men's heptathlon, WSU sophomore Ray Littles (Issaquah, Wash.) leads after the first three events with a score of 2,808 points and Cougar freshman Nick Johnson (Spokane, Wash.) is in third place with 2,600 points. Littles ran the 60m dash in a time of 7.05, long jumped 21-1 1/4 (6.43m), threw the shot put a PR distance of 39-5 3/4 (12.03m) and high jumped 6-0 (1.83m). Johnson ran the 60m dash in 7.32, long jumped 20-8 1/2 (6.31m), threw the shot 37-5 1/4 (11.41m) and cleared 5-9 3/4 (1.77m) in the high jump. Senior Dino Dodig ran the 60m dash in a time of 7.22 but hten withdrew from the competition. The heptathlon's 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m run will be contested Saturday.
Aisa Greene from George Fox won the women's long jump with a mark of 18-8 1/2 (5.70m) with WSU's McKenna Hogan second with a mark of 18-3 (5.56m) and Lauren Newman fourth with a PR leap of 18-2 1/4 (5.54m).
Emelda Malm-Annan of Wyoming captured the win in the women's 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 58-9 1/2 (17.92m). WSU's Katie Wardsworth was the runner-up with a toss of 54-3 3/4 (16.55m). Cougars reaching PRs in the event included Aoife Martin's 51-9 1/4 (15.78m) for third place, Stacia Bell's 46-8 (14.22m) for seventh, and Kaitlin Krouse's 43-1 1/2 (13.14m) for eighth.
