May 10, 2016 | Rowing
SAN FRANCISO, Calif. – Washington State University standout rower, Lisa Roman, has been named to the Pac-12 Women's Rowing All-Century Team, the conference announced this week.
A transfer from University of the Fraser Valley, Roman (Langley, British Columbia) competed with the Cougar varsity rowing team for three seasons, rowing in the varsity boat all three years (2010-12). She is a two-time all-conference honoree, and in 2012 was named to the CRCA All-West Region First Team and the Pocock All-America Second Team.
Out of the 57 nominees, 22 rowers and 3 coxswains were honored with the distinction that were selected by a panel consisting of coaches, players, administrators and members of the media based on their collegiate careers in the conference. Washington led the way with 10 honorees (eight rowers and two coxswains), while California was second with seven selections (six rowers and one coxswain).
Roman is a member of Canada's National Team, having competed with the women's eight crew since 2014. In April, Roman helped lead the Canadian women's eight to a silver at the World Rowing Cup at Varese, Italy. She helped lead the crew to gold at the World Rowing Cup at Lucerne, Switzerland in both 2014 and 2015, as well as at the Remenham Cup Challenge in 2015. She has helped lead Canada's women's eight to silver at the World Rowing Cup at Varese, Italy (2015), the World Rowing Championships at Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2014) and World Rowing Cup at Aiguebelette, France (2014), and bronze at the 2015 World Rowing Championships at Aiguebelette, France. In 2013 Roman rowed with Canada's Western Rowing Club at the Henley Royal Regatta and in 2011 she represented Canada at the Under-23 World Rowing Championships.
On top of the all-century team, Rower of the Century, Coach of the Century and Varsity Eight of the Century were all chosen as well. Washington's coach from 1988-2003, Jan Harville was named Coach of the Century, Stanford's Elle Logan (2008-11) was named Rower of the Century, while Washington's 1997 crew was named Women's Varsity Eight of the Century.
