Nicole Hare Named Second Team All-America

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Washington State University sophomore rower Nicole Hare has been named to the 2014 Pocock All-America Second Team, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Monday.
Hare (Calgary, Alberta) just finished her second season with the Cougars, having rowed with the varsity eight crew in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. Hare and the varsity eight crew placed 15th at the 2014 NCAA Championships as WSU finished 14th as a team last week. Last season the crew placed 14th, while the team also came in 14th at the championships. She was named to the 2014 Pac-12 All-Conference First Team in May and has excelled in the classroom as well, having been named a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete and to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team this season.
The 5-foot-9 rower becomes the ninth Cougar rower to be named to the All-American Second Team for the 11th time, joining Lisa Roman (2012), Sarah Wolff (2011), Katie Dick (2010), Karin Brevick (2008), Sarah Waterfield (2007), Jody Thomas (2006, 2005), Erin Patterson (2004) and current WSU coach, Corrie McGrath (2003, 2002). Hare's honor marks the 15th time a Cougar has been named to the CRCA All-America First or Second Team.
Hare was named to the CRCA All-West Region First Team in May, which made her eligible to receive All-America Accolades.
In order to earn the honors, a student-athlete must have competed in 75 percent of the spring races and been nominated by her institution. The selections are based on the strength of finish of the institution's varsity eight within the country, coaches' comments and the student-athlete's 2k erg score.
Seven rowers from Pac-12 schools were named to the 21-member first team, while five made the 21-person second team.
