PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's tennis team won the singles flights and doubles flight during the final day of play at the Cougar Classic Sunday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
The Cougars' duo of Barbora Michalkova and Aneta Miksovska defeated Hanna Kantenwein and Milena Toseva of Boise State 6-2, en route to the doubles title. The Cougar duo jumped out quick with a break and never looked back as they captured their first title together.
In doubles consolation play, WSU's Victoria Matejevic and Melisa Ates posted a 6-2 victory over Hannah Sulz and Ana Carbo of Montana, while Lejla Colic and Ege Tomey fell to Montana State's Laura Middel and Wanda Holopainen, 6-3.
In singles play, Miksovska took home the championship of the Crimson Flight after defeating teammate Michalkova, 6-1, 6-3. Miksovska was in control from the start, grinding out the win of the all Cougar final.
WSU's Ates impressed at her first Cougar Classic, posting a hard-fought victory over teammate Colic 7-6 (3), 6-4, and earning the Gray Flight singles crown.
In the singles consolation round, Matejevic bested Boise State's Toseva, 6-1, 6-3.
The Cougars are next in action on Sept. 22 when they travel to Provo, Utah to compete in the 2016 BYU Invitational. The tournament runs Thursday to Saturday.
