Cougars Place Three on ITA All-Academic Team

Washington State tennis earned the ITA Academic Award for the 10th consecutive season.

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2015-2016 season. Additionally, Trang Huynh, Lize Leenknecht and Aneta Miksovska were also honored by the ITA for their individual academic achievements.

During the 2015-16 season the Cougars earned a 3.35 team grade point average, as the team earned the ITA Academic Award for the 10th consecutive season. That included a 3.48 GPA during the 2016 spring semester. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above.

To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a 3.5 GPA during the current season, and have been enrolled in their school for at least two semesters.

Huynh, a senior from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam who completed her playing career last season, is majoring in psychology and plans to graduate in December. She posted a 3.82 grade point average during the 2015-16 season. In her first year as a Cougar after transferring from Troy University, Huynh posted a 32-16 singles record, which tied for third on WSU's single-season wins list.

Leenknecht hails from Heule, Belgium, and completed her Cougar career in 2016 with 77 singles victories, tied for 10th on WSU's all-time list. This season she posted a 19-12 singles record and 22-11 mark in doubles, despite battling a shoulder injury all year. She earned a 3.51 GPA and graduated with a degree in journalism and media production.

Miksovska, a rising sophomore from Stramberk, Czech Republic, finished her freshman season with a 31-11 singles record last season, including a team-best 19-4 record in dual matches. The 31 singles wins tied a freshman school record. Miksovska posted a 3.73 GPA and plans to major in food science.
