TARZANA, Calif. – Freshman Alivia Brown and senior Kristen Rue both notched top-20 finishes as the Washington State University women's golf team concluded play at the Bruin Wave Invitational in 11th place, Tuesday. The Cougars shot a third-round 304 (+16), their lowest of the tournament, and finished ahead of No. 38 California and one stroke back from No. 40 Colorado in 10th place.
After darkness and rain delayed the conclusion of the second round Monday, teams returned to El Caballero Country Club Tuesday morning and finished the second round before beginning the third round. Alivia Brown paced the Cougars in the final round, shooting 2-under (70). Brown carded four-straight birdies and shot even with par on the next five holes to finish 4-under on the back nine. Brown finished the three-round tournament 11-over (227) and tied for 17th. The finish marks Brown's fifth-straight top-25 finish dating back to last fall.
Senior Kristen Rue matched Brown's three-round performance, carding a 227 (+11) to finish tied for 17th. Rue provided the Cougars' lowest scores in the opening two rounds, shooting 5-over (149). Rue went on to card a 78 (+6) in the third round. The finish marks Rue's fourth top-25 performance of the season.
Junior Nani Yanagi's tournament was highlighted by a third-round 76 (+4). Yanagi carded an eagle on the 350-yard, par-4 No. 14 hole and provided WSU with its second-best score of the day. Yanagi (+18, 234) finished the tournament tied for 40th. Freshman Bree Wanderscheid (+28, 244) and junior Monica Huang (+35, 251) finished tied for 66th and tied for 73rd, respectively.
