Cougars Finish First Round at Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Washington State University men's golf team is tied with New Mexico for 14th place (+19, 307) through one round at the Tavistock Collegiate Inviational, Sunday, at Isleworth Golf and Country Club.
WSU is 28 strokes back from leader and fellow Pac-12 competitor, No. 30 California (-9, 279). No. 23 South Carolina is in second at 284 (-4) and No. 11 Arizona State rounds out the top three at 285 (-3).
“Our mistakes cost us a lot today,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “It's going to be tough and windy tomorrow, but we need to do a better job competing.”
Sophomore Derek Bayley sits in the top 25 after shooting even par (72) in the first round. Bayley is tied for 17th and is five strokes back of leader Collin Morikawa (-5, 67) of California.
At 5-over par (77), sophomore Zach Anderson is in a seven-way tie for 57th. Freshmen AJ Armstrong and Aaron Whalen and junior Nick Mandell are tied for 68th (+7, 79).
