Woodford Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

Woodford honored after leading the Cougars to their third straight tournament title.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Volleyball Players of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20, and Washington State's McKenna Woodford is the Freshman of the Week.

Woodford, a 6-4 outside hitter from Chandler, Ariz., was named the Most Valuable Player of the Texas Tech Lone Star Showdown after leading WSU to three-straight three-set wins over Northwestern State, Texas Tech and Portland State. She hit .351 over the weekend, averaging 3.78 kills, 2.00 digs, 0.89 blocks and 4.28 points per set. She had a weekend-high 17 kills against the host Red Raiders, also recording an impressive .538 hitting percentage in that match, adding five digs and four blocks. She also recorded a double-double against PSU, tallying 11 kills and 10 digs, and added three blocks.

This is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week award for the Cougars this season, and the fifth freshman of the week honor for Washington State all-time. This is also the 25th time a Cougar volleyball player has been selected for a conference player of the week honor.

WSU, 11-1, opens Pac-12 play this Thursday taking on No. 6 Washington, 10-0, in a 7 p.m. match in Bohler Gym.
