PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University men's basketball held its second Free Kids' Clinic of the season after its victory over Mississippi Valley State, Saturday, Dec. 28 at Beasley Coliseum, reaching 50 children, grades kindergarten through sixth.
The clinic featured instruction from members of the Cougar men's basketball team with the coaching staff in attendance and took place immediately after the kids were able to watch the Cougars knock off Mississippi Valley State, 85-48.
Following a brief introduction by the team and a stretching session, the kids broke into different groups based on their ages. In their groups the children visited different stations, including defense, shooting, passing and dribbling.
At the conclusion of the clinic, coordinator of basketball operations, Mike Simonson, and the basketball team addressed the participants and asked them questions about what they learned. They emphasized the importance of school and defense, in addition to other topics. The clinic concluded with questions from the kids to the team.
The men's basketball team has been a prominent part of the Palouse community the past three years as it has held camps, participated in Palouse Habitat for Humanity, visited and helped in elementary school classrooms and attended the Pullman Senior Center, among other activities.
