LOS ANGELES -- Rachel Kidder's 14 kills led the No. 11 UCLA volleyball team to a 25-10, 25-12, and 25-14, win over Washington State Sunday afternoon in Pauley Pavilion.
WSU (6-15 overall, 0-11 Pac-10) was led by Meagan Ganzer's nine kills and a match-high three blocks. Oceana Bush had eight digs and Sara Biondi had 15 assists. Cougars hit .000 for the match.
UCLA (17-5, 7-4) hit .369 as a team with Kidder the only player in the match with double-digit kills. Kelly Reaves had 10 digs while setter Lauren Van Orden had 36 assists.
WSU Head Coach Andrew Palileo tried several lineups during the match with Bush moving from libero to outside hitter in the third set, having Kaleinani Kabalis play libero, and Faith Hutcherson, a defensive specialist, replaced Biondi at setter in the same set.
"I didn't like the way things were going and we had worked on different combinations in practice just in case there were opportunities and today there was an opportunity to try that lineup," Palileo said. "I thought we played with a little bit of energy when we made those changes. I want to give our team the best chance to win. UCLA is a hard-working team and they kept battling. We are too predictable. This league is too tough, the players are too good, and the coaches are too good. If you try to scheme it, and we did try to hide Ganzer in some situations and use her in other situations, but good teams and good coaches are going to find your weakness eventually. We are still trying to get better."
Washington State hosts No. 7 Washington (17-5, 6-5) Friday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. in Bohler Gym.
