Ogden, Utah - The No. 44 (ITA) Washington State University women's tennis team captured a shutout victory against Big Sky opponent Weber State, defeating the Wildcats, 7-0, Wednesday.

The Cougars (3-0 overall) jumped out in front early by sweeping the doubles matches, earning the opening point.

Teammates Ekaterina Kamendova and Aleksandra Cekic continued their strong play with a victory over Caroline Drugge and Brittiny Moore, 8-3. Elisabeth Fournier and Ioana Oprea picked up a win over Elsje Beneke and Karlie Hancock, 8-3, and Marina Nicolas and Bianca Selaru finished off the sweep for the Cougars with an impressive win over the Wildcat's Greyce Farias and Alyssia Pyne, 8-1.

In singles play, the Cougars kept the hot streak going and won all six singles matches. At No. 1, Cougar freshman Fournier pushed her record to 12-1 on the season with a straight set victory over Farias 6-1, 6-0.

Oprea improved her record to 6-5 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Drugge while Cekic downed Moore, 6-1, 6-2, grabbing a victory and improving her record to 9-4 on the season. At No. 4, Nicolas downed Hancock 6-1, 6-1, earning her seventh victory on the season.

Gomez continued her strong play this season defeating Pyne in straight sets 6-1, 6-3, at No. 5, improving her record to 8-4 while Selaru earned a victory over the Wildcats Markay Mullen, 6-1, 6-0.

The Cougars return to action Thursday, Jan. 22, when they take on the University of Utah at Salt Lake City.
