PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University tennis team competed in Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional Friday, sending two players into the third round at Stanford, California.

In singles play, freshman Elisabeth Fournier continued her hot play to begin the season by earning two victories when she defeated California's Catalina Visico, 6-0, 6-1. Fournier then went on to defeat Cal Poly's Jocelyn Davis, 6-3, 7-5, earning a spot in the third round. With the two wins, Fournier has pushed her season record to 9-0.

Senior Aleksandra Cekic posted two victories earning her a spot in the third round after she defeated Nevada's Shannon Cassidy, 6-2, 6-0. In the second round Cekic defeated Randi Schuler of UC Davis, 3-6, 5-2, Retired.

Freshman Ekaterina Kamendova earned a first round victory over Stanford's Logan Hansen, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, but fell to No. 7 Marina Cossou of California, 6-3, 6-3 in round two.

In round one, Jessica Gomez posted a victory over Emma Shapiro of UC Davis, 6-3, 6-2. In the second round Gomez went up against No. 22 Claire Ilcinkas, but fell 6-1, 6-1.

Ioana Oprea fell in a tough fought match against Cal Poly's Suzie Matzenaur, 6-2, 6-4, while Marina Nicolas forced a three set match against Rachel Dillon of California, but fell, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

In doubles play, Kamendova and Oprea had a first round bye and in the second round they fell to Aleksandra Malovic and Samantha Smith of Washington, 8-5, in the second round. Gomez and Nicolas posted a 8-1 victory over Jessica Harris and Jenna Kappel of UC Davis, but failed to make it out of the second round after falling to No.8 Renata Kucerkova and Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State, 8-2. Elisabeth Fournier and Aleksandra Cekic fell in their first round match to Randi Schuler and Desiree Stone of UC Davis, 9-8(10-8).

The team will continue play Saturday morning at Stanford University with the first matches starting at 9:00 a.m.
