MOSCOW, Idaho - Washington State senior sprinter James McSwain won both the 60m and 200m dashes at the McDonald's Collegiate Indoor Meet Saturday afternoon at the University of Idaho's Kibbie Dome.
McSwain won the 60m final with a time of 6.75 seconds with Cougar Jaycee Robertson second in a time of 6.85. McSwain won the 200m dash in a time of 21.48 with Cougs Justin Woods third (21.91), Brian Woods fourth (22.08), and Jarrell Nelson fifth (22.15). McSwain also ran the second leg of the winning 4x400m relay as WSU's Devin Timpson, Brian Woods and Jimmy Schofield clocked in a time of 3:19.70.
Timpson and Schofield ran to fifth and seventh places in the 400m dash with times of 49.44 and 49.76, respectively.
Cougar freshman Robert Williams grabbed his third consecutive 60m hurdles win in as many weeks. Williams won Saturday with a time of 8.34 after setting the school freshman record last week at the Cougar Indoor Meet with a time of 8.18.
In the Saturday field events, WSU's Ryan Thomas and Kyle Eaton both cleared 6-feet, 4 inches (1.93m) in the men's high jump which was the third-best bar cleared of the day.
Freshman Matt Lamb, competing unattached, finished third in the men's shot put with a toss of 53-5 (16.28m), followed by WSU junior Drew Ulrick's 50-0 3/4 (15.26m), and Vic Asher, another Cougar competing unattached, in sixth with at toss of 50-0 1/2 (15.25m).
In the women's running events, La Shawnda Porter and Nicole Hatcher each had second-place finishes but both were to Canadian Olympian Angela Whyte. Hatcher ran a season-best 60m time of 7.81 while Porter ran a PR 200m time of 24.84. Brandi Probasco-Canda's 24.99 time in the 200m was third while Hatcher was sixth at 25.55 and Nicole McClendon was seventh with a time of 25.86.
Probasco-Canda took second place in the women's 400m dash with a time of 55.52. WSU freshman Lorraine King was third with a time of 58.46, McClendon fifth in 58.50, and Kameko Wilson was seventh in 58.71. The Cougars won the 4x400m relay with at time of 3:54.01.
Freshman Angelica Flynn finished fourth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.30.
In the field events, McKinnon Hanson won the women's high jump with a clearance at 5-5 (1.65m). Freshman Catie Schuetzle won the long jump with a leap of 18-7 1/4 (5.67m) while sophomore Sarah Burns was third with a jump of 17-4 1/4 (5.29m). Sophomore Jessica Zita, competing unattached, won the shot put with a PR toss of 45-4 1/4 (13.82m). McKenzie Burgess Garberg finished third in the shot with a throw of 42-1 1/4 (12.83m).
The Washington State track and field teams will see action in two locations next weekend with some competing at the Holiday Inn Team Invite at Nampa, Idaho, and mainly the pole vaulters and distance runners competing at the Husky Classic at Seattle.
