The Washington State baseball team won the River City Tournament Sunday, with five runs scored in the fourth, including three that resulted from Kaeo Rubin's double to left field, to beat Sacramento State 6-2 at Hornet Field. The Cougars are 5-2, their best record after two weekends of play since 1999.

Also seeing mound time for the Cougs were Brett Beetham, James Freeman and Brandon Hundt. Justin Deme (1-1) started the game for the Hornets pitching four innings, allowing six earned runs, to take the loss for Sacramento State (9-5).
WSU put the first run on the board in the third inning, following Deme walking Jay Miller and Rubin, Grant Richardson singled to center to score Miller. Rubin and Richardson were both stranded on base following a groundout by Jeremy Farrar.
With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, WSU scored five runs to take a 6-0 lead. Justin McClure was hit by a pitch, which advanced Jeff Miller to second, who had singled to center. Justin Hart then walked, to load the bases. The next batter, Jay Miller then walked to advance all runners and bring in Jeff Miller for an RBI. Rubin then doubled to right field to score McClure, Hart and Jay Miller. Richardson was hit by a pitch to get on base and then both Richardson and Rubin advanced bases on a wild pitch. Farrar then singled to the shortstop to bring home Rubin, but Richardson was thrown out at home to end the inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Sacramento State answered WSU's five run inning by posting their first run. The run came on a solo home run to left center by Brett Flowers. The Hornets' only other run came in the bottom of the sixth off of a homerun by Andy Hnilo.
