Danny Freund begins his first season as Washington State’s offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach on Head Coach Jimmy Rogers staff.
 
Freund arrives in Pullman after one season on Rogers staff at South Dakota State, where he served as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2024 season. In 2024, the Jackrabbit offense finished fourth in scoring offense (36.7 ppg), third in rushing offense (236.1 ypg) and 12th in total offense at 434.1 ypg). SDSU’s offense scored 40-plus points in eight contests, including three of 50-plus. Senior quarterback Mark Gronowski finished 17th and 18th nationally in passing yards (2,719) and passing touchdowns (18), respectively, en route to Stats Perform FCS All-America honors.
 
Prior to SDSU, Freund sent 12 seasons coaching at the University of North Dakota, including serving as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since from 2018-23. He helped lead the Fighting Hawks to five Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearances, as well as a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title during the 2020-21 spring season.  
 
Prior to his role as offensive coordinator, Freund had stints coaching UND's running backs, fullbacks and wide receivers. He also held the title of associate head coach during the 2023 season, when UND averaged 34.1 points per game en route to a postseason berth. He was honored by RII Sports Technology with its GRAPHITE Award, which recognizes excellence and efficiency in play-calling.
 
Freund was a two-year team captain (2007, 2008) as UND made the transition from NCAA Division II, compiling a 16-6 record as the starting quarterback. He set multiple school passing records before embarking on his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2010. Freund returned to Grand Forks and UND in 2011.
