WSU CAREER: As a SOPHOMORE (2015-16), opened season in the second varsity eight with a seven-second win at No. 19 Gonzaga…carried on to finish second behind No. 14 USC in day-one competition at the San Diego Crew Classic, with the second varsity eight crew…finished sixth in the grand final at day two…rowed with the second varsity eight at No. 8 Washington…with the second varsity eight crew at Clemson, finished second behind No. 3 Virginia in heat three of the first session…also placed second in heat three of the second session behind No. 10 Michigan…raced past five crews on the final day, finishing second to No. 4 Ohio State in heat one…out-stroked Oregon State with the second varsity eight, and team swept all events to win a seventh-straight Winchell Cup…placed fourth at the Pac-12 Championships with the second varsity eight, and team also picked up a second-straight top-four finish…advanced to the petite final at the 2016 NCAA Championships with the second varsity eight, placing 11th...team finished 12th…as a FRESHMAN (2014-15), competed with the varsity four and second varsity eight crews in the fall…in the spring, competed with novice and third varsity eight teams….helped the third varsity eight team row past Louisville and Clemson in the Clemson Invitational…help defeat No. 17 UCLA, No. 18 Oregon State and Oregon at Dexter Lake…helped third varsity crew attain third place in the Pac-12 Rowing Championships as the team finished third overall…was a spare for WSU at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
 
PRIOR TO WSU: Competed in rowing at Hartpury College at Gloucester, England…helped the Gloucester-Hartpury girls’ quad win the Diamond Jubilee Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta…member of the Great Britain Under-18 women’s quad, which won a gold medal.
 
HIGH SCHOOL: Competed in rowing, netball and track and field at Poltair School at St. Austell, England.
 
PERSONAL: Born Jessica Diane Newson, January of 1996 at Truro, England…father Steve is a heavy goods vehicle driver, mother Joanna is administrative officer…brother Adam…enjoys rowing, fitness, and socializing…majoring in social sciences.
