PULLMAN -- A pair of Washington State women's javelin throwers will compete at the 2012 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 15-17, at Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex at the University of Indiana in Bloomington.
Anna Adamko and Christine Kirkwood are scheduled to compete in the women's javelin throw Friday, June 15, at 11:45 a.m. PT.
Adamko, a freshman from Vancouver, Wash., threw a lifetime-best distance of 159-feet, 7 inches (48.65m) at the NCAA West Preliminary Round for 10th place and the mark was the seventh-best in WSU women's javelin history. At the NCAA Championships she finished 19th and earned All-America honorable mention honors. Adamko took seventh place at the Pac-12 Championships.
Kirkwood, a freshman from Othello, Wash., has a lifetime-best javelin toss of 173-9 (52.96m), thrown her senior year in high school. Her best toss at WSU came in March in Los Angeles, a distance of 164-2 (50.05m), fifth-best in WSU women's javelin history. Kirkwood took third place at the Pac-12 Championships and finished 21st at the NCAA West Prelims.
The USA Junior Track & Field Championships showcases the best high school standouts and the most promising college freshmen and serves as a qualifier for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships, July 10-15, in Barcelona, Spain.
