Cougar Baseball Announces 2024 Signing Class

PULLMAN, Wash. (July 17, 2024) – Washington State Baseball will welcome a 30-member 2024 incoming class for the 2025 season, head coach Nathan Choate announced Wednesday.

The 2024 class features four junior college All-Americans, three players of the year, three pitchers of the year, four Division I transfers and 17Â players from the Pacific Northwest.

"We are very excited with the new additions to our program," Choate said. "Our coaching staff, spearheaded by recruiting coordinator Joe Perez, Eric Hutting, Brandon Vial, Austin Ames and newly hired Tommy Richards, have spent the last year identifying the right type of people and players that fit our baseball culture at Washington State. We are excited to begin our training next month."

Kyle Becker is a right-handed pitcher who pitched at Nevada the last seasons, appearing in 10 games last season with 11 strikeouts in 9.1 innings.

Miles Chandler is a right-handed pitcher out of West Seattle High School who was named first-team All-State, first-team All-Metro and is rated the sixth-best righthander in Washington by Perfect Game. Chandler was named the 3A Semifinal Player of the Game after striking out five in five shutout innings to send WSHS to the state title game where they won the 3A State Championship.

Last season, The Netherlands native went 9-1 with two saves, a 2.15 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 79.2 innings.

This summer, the Ontario native was named a WCBL All-Star while hitting .379 with eight doubles, two home run, 22 stolen base and 31 RBI in 34 games for the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

Shepard was also named to the NWAC All-Tournament Team after striking out five and allowed just one earned run in a complete game effort.

This past season, Smith was a named a NJCAA Division II All-American, the NJCAA Region IV Pitcher of the Year and set Rock Valley single-season records for strikeouts (113), wins (11) and innings (77) while helping Rock Valley to a 42-15 season. Smith also set career marks for strikeouts (202), innings (141) and wins (17) in his two seasons for the Golden Eagles.

Luke Thiele is a shortstop out of Central Arizona College who hit .300 with eight doubles and 16 runs scored in 27 games this past season. Thiele was recently ranked the seventh-best junior college shortstop prospect in the country. As a freshman in 2023, Thiele was named to the All-Region Second Team and All-ACCAC First Team after hitting .328 with seven doubles, one home run, 24 runs scored and 17 RBI.

Julian Villasenor is an outfielder from St. John Bosco High School in southern California who helped SJBHS to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Championship game, the school's first championship game appearances in it's 84-year history.

Cole Watterson is an outfielder out of Edmonds Community College who earned All-NWAC North first-team honors this past season after scoring 33 runs and stealing 46 bases in 40 games.

Sam Weaver is a left-handed pitcher out of Mead High School in Spokane who was named to the All-Greater Spokane League Second Team and was second in the league in strikeouts.

Brayden Wells is a lefthanded pitcher out of Pullman, Wash. who is transferring from Chaminade in Hawaii where he made seven starts and struck out 31 in 37 innings before an injury cut his season short.
