GOLD RIVER, Calif. (May 19, 2024) – Washington State women's rowing finished seventh overall at the 2024 Pac-12 Championship on Sunday morning with a fifth-place finish in the varsity eight boat and three seventh-place finishes.
No. 2 Stanford won the Pac-12 Championships for their third-straight year, with No. 4 California in second place followed by No. 8 Washington in third.
Washington State finished the morning with a successful fifth-place finish in the first varsity eight with a time of 6:46.36. Through the first 1,000 meters, WSU was in a tight pack with Oregon State, UCLA, and USC. The race for fourth was close until the end with the Cougars finishing in fifth, three seconds behind OSU and two seconds in front of USC. Stanford won the race with a time of 6:26.55.
WSU finished seventh in the 3V8 to start the morning with a time of 7:15.46. The Cougs were tight with USC and Oregon State in a battle for fifth place through the first 1,000 meters. The Cougs ultimately finished the race in seventh just behind USC (7:04.53) and Oregon State (7:09.77). Stanford won the race with a time of 6:37.54.
In the varsity four race, the Cougs finished seventh with a time of 7:57.75. Through 1,000 meters, the race for fifth was close between USC, UCLA, and the Cougs. Although the Cougs worked hard to stay close to the pack, they would finish in seventh. Stanford won the race with a time of 7:11.83.
The Cougars' second varsity eight squad completed their race in seventh with a time of 7:03.71, close behind USC and UCLA. They kept close with the bottom four crews for most of the race and ended up only nine seconds behind the sixth-place boat. Stanford won the race with a time of 6:28.34.
Washington State now looks ahead to the NCAA Championships Selection Show on Tuesday, May 21 to find out if they will earn a berth to the championships that will take place May 31 to June 2 at East Fork/Harsha Lake in Bethel, Ohio.
