Cougars claim multiple program records and NCAA qualifying marks Friday in Seattle

SEATTLE — In one of the final events of day one at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite, Eva Lowder moved from No. 21 in Division I and into a tie for 13th in the women's pole vault after she set a Washington State women's indoor program record by clearing 4.38m (14' 4.5") Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Center.  Micaela De Mello also moved from outside of the top-20 into a tie for 14th in Division I in the women's 60m hurdles with a personal-best 8.13 to place second, and Zenah Cheptoo lowered the WSU women's 3,000m run record for a third time, placing second overall on Friday with a time of 8:56.15.

Lowder's 4.38m vault broke Tamara Diles's mark from 2002, a mark which also stood as both a women's program and women's freshman record.  Her fellow freshman pole vaulter, Tatum Moku, also notched a PR Friday night in the Dempsey Indoor, claiming the sixth spot with a final mark of 4.14m.

Brian Barsaiya (8:02.22) and Leif Swanson (8:14.00) each capped the night with PR's in the men's 3,000m run, and multis Mason Mahacek and Lee Walburn closed Friday in a tie for third (3,104 pts) in the men's heptathlon standings.

Day two of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite gets going Saturday morning with the women's shot put at 9 a.m., while the heptathloni 60-meter hurdles leads off the day's track events at 10 a.m.
