Zenah Cheptoo and
Evans Kurui competed at the NCAA National Cross Country Championships at Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. Cheptoo finished 47
th and Kurui finished 36
th in their respective races. Kurui's finish was good enough for him to earn All-American status.
In the women's 6K race, Cheptoo finished in 47
th with a time of 20:08.5. Through the first two kilometers, Cheptoo kept close to the front of the pack, fighting to be in the top 25. At the halfway point, she climbed into the top 20. In the final push of the race, Cheptoo finished strong and ultimately concluded the race in the top 50. This race completes an extremely successful freshman year for the Kenyan.
The second race of the morning was the men's 10k in which Kurui finished in 36
th with a time of 29:23.8. After a very crowded start to the race, Kurui worked his way to the front of the pack through the first 2000 meters. With half of the race down, Kurui was fighting for the top spot with a couple of other racers at the front of the pack. Kurui fought until the end, finishing in the top 40 to complete his freshman year.
