PULLMAN, Wash. (Dec. 3, 2025) – Washington State Cross Country sweeps WCC awards, the conference announced Wednesday morning.
Solomon Kipchoge wins Men's Runner of the Year and
Rosemary Longisa wins Women's Runner of the Year.
Wayne Phipps wins coach of the year honors for the first time since starting his coaching reign at WSU.
Laura Harmon wins coach of the year for the first time in her coaching career.
Solomon Kipchoge wins this award in his second collegiate season and first at WSU. Kipchoge won WCC Runner of the Week twice this season, the only male runner in the conference to do so. Kipchoge won three races, including the WCC Championships and the NCAA West Region Championships. Kipchoge ran his fastest 10k of his career at the NCAA Championships, where he finished third in the country and became an All-American.
Rosemary Longisa wins Runner of the Year in her first collegiate season. Longisa won WCC Runner of the Week three times this season, the most of any runner. She won five races during her first season, setting course records at both the WSU Alumni Open and the Gans Creek Classic. Longisa won both the WCC Championships and the West Region Championships. Longisa became an All-American at the NCAA Championships, finishing in 27th.
Wayne Phipps won Coach of the Year for the first time as WSU Head Coach and the first time in his career since 2014. Phipps led the Cougar men to their first team conference championship in 50 years, and the first team appearance at the National Stage since 2016. Phipps coached one of the best one two punches in the Nation in
Solomon Kipchoge and
Evans Kurui, the top two finishers at the WCC Championships and NCAA West Regionals. Emerging stars like
Kutoven Stevens and
Josphat Meli also helped the Cougars to qualify for the National Championships and win the WCC Championships.
Laura Harmon, in her fourth year at Washington State, wins Coach of the Year for the first time in her collegiate coaching career. Harmon helped lead the Cougar women to their first conference championship in program history. The women also qualified for the National Championships after an impressive performance at the West Regionals for the third time in program history. Harmon led freshman
Rosemary Longisa to five meet wins, including the WCC Championships and West Regionals.
Nicole Bissell and
Kylah Madariaga emerged as important factors that led this team to become WCC Champions and qualify for the National Championships.
