Solomon Kipchoge finishes third and wins All-American honors in the men's 10k National Championship, with
Evans Kurui also winning this honor, finishing in the top-20.
Rosemary Longisa was the top finisher for the women, also winning All-American honors, finishing in 27th. The men finished in 17th overall as a team, while the women finished in 27th. Both teams put up good fights against a tough field of competition.
Freshman
Rosemary Longisa fought from the beginning of the race until the end. Her time of 19 minutes and 14.6 seconds was strong enough to finish in the top-40 and win an All-American award. Longisa held well with the lead pack for the first half of the race and just could not get that extra burst of speed in the final half of the race. Longisa becomes the fifth All-American in WSU Women's Cross Country history.
Zenah Cheptoo finished in 66th, with a time of 19 minutes and 41.5 seconds, an impressive finish for the sophomore.
Nicole Bissell was the third Coug to cross the line, finishing in 192nd, with a time of 20 minutes and 31.1 seconds. This time matched her personal best time she set last week at the West Regionals.
Kylah Madariaga finished in a personal best time of 20 minutes and 44.2 seconds, the fourth best of the team.
Solomon Kipchoge finished third overall in the National Championships, one of the best finishes in WSU Cross Country history. Kipchoge started the race towards the front of the pack but behind teammate
Evans Kurui. Kipchoge made his lush at the 7k mark and never looked back. He finished the race third, only seven seconds behind the first-place finisher. Kipchoge's time of 28 minutes and 40.1 seconds, a personal best for the sophomore. He wins All-American awards for the second straight year, finishing in the top 40 at last year's National Championships.
Evans Kurui was another Coug to win All-American honors, finishing in 17th, with a time of 28 minutes and 51.9 seconds. He wins All-American honors for the second straight year, finishing in 36th place last year.
Kutoven Stevens was the third runner to cross the line for WSU, finishing in a competing time of 30 minutes and 8.1 seconds.
Josphat Meli and
Evan Bruce were the next two runners for the Cougs, finishing in 190th and 215th, respectively.
Washington State ends its cross-country season with its second-highest finish in the men's 10k in the past four National Championship appearances. The women add one more, and the men add two more All-Americans to the history books.
