Cougars Match Program Record With 8-Under Second Round in Las Vegas

BOULDER CITY, Nev. (October 21, 2024) – Washington State Women's Golf saw three players fire rounds under par and the team matched the program record for single round score of eight-under (280) in the second round of the Clash at Boulder Creek in Nevada Monday afternoon.

WSU tied the program record set in the third round of the 2007 UNLV Spring Rebel Invite, at the same course in Boulder Creek. Madelyn Gamble fired a round of 69 after recording four birdies to sit tied for 10th, freshman Grace Rubelsky carded a season-best 69 with six birdies and senior Sarah Skovgaard Bils tallied five birdies for a round of 70. Sophomore Alice Johansson posted an even-par 72 and sits tied for 19^th at two-under.

"We played great against today and have ourselves in a good position heading into tomorrow's final round," head coach Kevin Tucker said. "We showed a lot of maturity today with our decision making and finished strong with three birdies in our last two holes.

"Maddie (Gamble) has found her groove again and it was a lot of fun to watch Grace shoot the first under-par round of her college career."

The Course and Tournament Format
The Clash at Boulder Creek is held at the Desert Hawk Coyote Run course at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.

The course will play as a par-72 at 6,334 yards.

Teams will play 18 holes Sunday, 18 Monday and wrap up play Tuesday with 18 holes.

In addition to Washington State and host Northern Arizona, Boise State, CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Drake, Fresno State, Illinois State, Incarnate Word, Northern Colorado, San Francisco, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, Tarleton State, UTEP, UC Riverside and UTRGV make up the 17-team field.
