Indoor track season picks up with split weekend in Spokane and Seattle

Washington State will travel to compete in the Spokane Sports Showcase (Friday), Spokane Indoor Challenge (Friday-Saturday), and UW Preview (Saturday) this weekend.

PULLMAN, Wash. — Washington State men's and women's track and field teams get set to split for the first indoor competition weekend of 2024, beginning with Friday's Spokane Sports Showcase at The Podium.  A small contingent of Cougs will compete in the two-day Spokane Indoor Challenge at The Podium on Friday and Saturday, while the Washington State distance groups make the trek across the state to compete in the UW Indoor Preview on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor Center.

Last Time Out - Spokane Invitational (Dec. 9, 2023)
WSU combined for four wins on the track and a pair of wins in the field in the indoor-season-opening Spokane Invitational from The Podium last month.  Micaela De Mello (women's 60m hurdles, 8.40), Mason Lawyer (men's 60m, 6.70), Jasneet Nijjar (women's 300m, 37.67), and Jared McAlvey (men's 300m, 33.71) captured their first wins of the winter, and  Caden Hottman (men's weight throw, 16.76m) and Eli Lawrence (men's triple jump, 14.71m) also came away with first-place finishes in their respective events.

Jasneet Nijjar (37.67) and Jared McAlvey (33.71) each took the top spot in the women's and men's 300m runs, respectively, and redshirt freshman Eli Lawrence won his first-career triple jump competition with a 14.71m mark to take the top spot.

Up Next:
Washington State will continue to build into a busy indoor season next week as select student-athletes return to competition in Moscow, Idaho, at the McCluskey Memorial Open from the P1FCU Kibbie Dome next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19-20.
