Cougars head to Spokane for Whitworth Peace Meet

PULLMAN, Wash. — Coming off a weekend where the Cougars posted six top-10 times, the Washington State men's and women's track and field team will travel to Spokane this weekend to compete in the Whitworth Peace Meet Friday at Boppell Track & Whitworth Pine Bowl.
 
The Whitworth Peace Meet begins with the women's discus at noon, while the running events begin at 1:20 p.m. with the women's 10k.

LAST TIME OUT (Stanford Invitational, Bobcat Invitational, Texas Relays):
The Cougar set six top 10 marks, 14 PRs and five podium finishes during the three meets last weekend. Alania Stone Boggs took first in the Stanford Invitational women's 5000m with a time of 16:14.77, the fourth-best in WSU history and fifth-fastest in the Pac-12 this season. 
 
Sophomore Ronald Grueso Mosqquera took the top spot in the men's shot put at the Stanford Invitational with a personal-best mark of 19.16m, the best in the conference this season and good for a top-10 spot in the country. 
 
The Cougars posted top-10 times in both the men's and women's 100m dash During the Texas Relays beginning with Elise Unruh-Thomas (11.57, third all-time) in the women's time finals, followed by Louie Hinchliffe (10.23, sixth all-time) in the men's timed finals. 
 
RANKINGS: The men's track and field team moved up the west rankings by three spot to eighth while the women's team held strong at 10th. The Cougars have three highly ranked event groups in the country: the women's javelin sit at No. 17, the women's hammer is at No. 20 while the men's 100m dash is No. 24. 
 
2023 WSU OUTDOOR NOTABLES: 
- Washington State's men has four individuals with a time/mark ranked in the top-25 in the NCAA. 
- Lee Walburn hit a personal-best score (7,323 pts) in the men's decathlon and currently ranks fifth in the country. 
- Ronald Grueso Mosqquera's mark of 19.16m in the men's shot put ranks 10th in the nation heading into the week. 
- Jared McAlvey was named Pac-12 Men's Track Athlete of the Week after a time of 50.90 -- a time that still ranks 14th in the nation heading into the weekend -- to win the GCU Invitational (3/17).

NEXT UP: Washington State men's and women's track and field will head back on the road next weekend as the teams will divide to compete at the Mt SAC Relays (Apr. 12-15) in Walnut, Calif., the Bryan Clay Invitational (Apr. 13-15) in Azusa, Calif., and the Whitworth Twilight (Apr. 13) back in Spokane, Wash.
