Jehlárová selected No. 2 overall, Basham goes in fifth round of inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation college draft

Five-time First Team All-Pac-12 honoree Magda Jehlárová was drafted second overall by the San Diego Mojo before being traded to the Atlanta Vibe.

ATLANTA — Washington State volleyball fifth-year senior Magda Jehlářová was selected No. 2 overall by the San Diego Mojo in the inaugural Pro Volleyball Federation collegiate player draft as announced by the league following its inaugural college player draft Monday.  Her back row teammate, fifth-year senior libero Karly Basham, was later selected with the No. 32 overall pick — the fourth pick of the fifth round — by the Grand Rapids Rise.

After being selected with the second pick, Jehlářová was later traded by San Diego to the Atlanta Vibe in exchange for former Illinois middle blocker Ali Bastianelli, and former Arizona outside hitter, Kendra Dahlke.

"We are very excited for Magda and Karly! What a great opportunity to get drafted and be able to stay in the U.S. to play professionally," said Washington State Head Volleyball Coach Jen Greeny. "We are thrilled that Coug fans across the country will get to continue watching both Magda and Karly play at the highest level."

Jehlářová's selection comes on the heels of a historic five-year career in which she was the only athlete in Pac-12 history to earn five consecutive first-team all-conference honors.  During her final year on the Palouse, she became the NCAA leader in career blocks (769), while also setting a Washington State single-season record for hitting percentage (.424).  She leaves Washington State as the program's career leader in matches played (147), hitting percentage (.384), and block assists (624).  Her greatness was exemplified during the Cougars' postseason run as she averaged 2.90 kills/set while hitting at a .522 clip in WSU's Sweet 16 run.  She put up a remarkable 10 blocks to go along with 15 kills and zero errors in the Cougars' second-round win over Dayton in Bohler Gym.

The Cougars' libero from their past three NCAA Tournament runs, Louisville, Ky., native, Basham, finished the season with 3.31 digs/set and another 26 aces, finishing her collegiate career with 113 aces and ,1424 career digs.  Basham tied a WSU program record with seven aces in a home win over Belmont during her senior season in 2022, and was an integral part of the Cougars' 2023 Sweet 16 run that saw them beat seven top-25 teams en route to 14-6 Pac-12 record and the first trip to the NCAA Sweet 16 since 2018.

Having spent her summers playing for her native Czech Republic, Jehlářová was a part of a 2019 freshman class that continued to raise the level of play at WSU and finished their careers with three-consecutive 20-win seasons, the first three-straight 20-win seasons since 1995-97.  The 2023 Cougars reached a 26-8 overall record, the highest win total for any team under Head Coach Jen Greeny and the most wins since the 1997 team that reached the NCAA Sweet 16.  After back-to-back second-round defeats, the Cougars earned hosting rights for the first and second rounds of the 2023 NCAA Tournament and defended home court with wins over Grand Canyon and Dayton, respectively.

Washington State was one of five schools to have more than one player selected in Monday's draft, joining a select group that included Oregon (6), Arkansas (2), BYU (2), and Tennessee (2).

A player drafted needed to be at least 18 years or older on the day of the draft and defined as a college player. Athletes who met these criteria are eligible to be drafted. Players are not required to declare for the draft and anyone drafted may elect to return to college (if she has remaining eligibility) should she chose not to sign with her Pro Volleyball Federation team.

Jehlářová and the Vibe will help break ground inside the PVF playing lines as they are slated to compete in the league's inaugural season-opener on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 5 p.m. PST, on the road at the Omaha Supernovas.  Basham and the Rise will open their season in the second match of the league's first week, taking on the Columbus Fury on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 7 p.m.

The Vibe and the Rise will each play a total of 24 matches in the league's first season which spans 16 weeks from January to May, culminating with a Championship Event Weekend on May 16-19.
