PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State men's basketball freshman
Myles Rice was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the second-consecutive week, the Pac-12 Conference announced Monday afternoon. The honor is Rice's second career Conference recognition, following his first weekly honor for his career-high performance last week and the first back-to-back Pac-12 weekly awards by a Cougar since
Mouhamed Gueye was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in the final two weeks of the 2021-22 season.
Rice guided the Cougars to two wins this week, scoring 14 points in Sunday's win over Grambling. Rice has scored in double figures seven of his first nine games. The Columbia, S.C. native also dished out 11 assists over two games, including a career-high seven assists Sunday, the most by a Coug this season
Rice also grabbed seven steals in Sunday's win, the most by a Coug in four seasons, and one shy of WSU's all-time single-game record. Rice's seven snags is the second-most in the Pac-12 this season and the redshirt-freshman is tied for fourth in the Pac-12 at 1.89 steals per game.
Rice is currently the conference's second-leading freshmen scorer, averaging 16.0 points per game, 11th overall. Twice Rice has eclipsed 20 points, making him one of only three freshmen in the League with multiple 20-point performances.
The Conference also named Tristan da Silva of Colorado as the Pac-12 Player of Week.
Washington State returns to the court Saturday, Dec. 16 in Phoenix, Arizona to face Santa Clara in the 2023 Jerry Colango Classic at Footprint Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Pac-12 Network.
