OPENING FIVE
> Continuing their long week the Cougs hit the road for a critical game against Oregon in Eugene Monday night. The game is a reschedule of a contest that was postponed last month due to Covid-19 protocols. Both teams come in off of losses Saturday with WSU falling to ASU and Oregon falling to Cal. Monday's game is the 300th in the all-time series.
> Against their PNW rivals in the Pac-12 the Cougs have gone an impressive 7-2 in two years under coach Smith winning their first 7 before dropping contests to OSU and UW. Cougs have a chance for 3-straight against Oregon for the first time since winning 6-straight from 2008 to 09 when they played three times in each season. It would be the first time winning in three-straight seasons since 1977 to 1980.
> Mouhamed Gueye continued his ascent to stardom coming up with his 3rd double-double of the year (12&11) against ASU. He is averaging 7.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg while in Pac play he is averaging 8.3 ppg and 6.3 rpg including going 5-for-12 (41.7%) from deep.
> The Cougs defense continues to be among the elite ranking 22nd in defensive rating at 92.4 per 100. WSU has allowed opponents to shoot and effective FG% of just 46.0% (31st in the country).
> WSU's NET dropped to 47 from its all-time high of 36 entering the week. In the KenPom rating the Cougs check in at 46.
