SPOKANE, Wash. – The Washington State University Track and Field program continued the solid start of the 2019 outdoor season, with a successful trip to the Sam Adams Invitational, where the Cougars claimed 13 total overall wins at the two day meet.Â

Anchoring the Cougars was junior
Molly Scharmann who took first overall in the pole vault event with a mark of 13-feet 5 inches (4.09-meters). Scharmann's vault also set a new event record at the Sam Adams Invite, breaking the previous mark of 4.01-meters in 2014. The women's hammer throw featured multiple top five finishes for the Cougars as
Aoife Martin placed second overall with a throw of 172-feet 7 inches (52.61m), and just behind was
Stacia Bell in fourth, with a toss of 167-feet (50.91m).
Chrisshnay Brown picked up where she left off a week ago, earning victories in both the shot put (50-feet 5 1/2 inches), and the discus (148-feet 4 inches) events.Â
The wins continued for WSU in multiple other events which included the 100-meter hurdles, where
Lindsey Schauble recorded a PR of 14.90 seconds, the 100-meter dash, as
Regyn Gaffney surged ahead of the competition with an 11.72 seconds mark, and finally in the 4x100Â relay as the team of
Jordyn Tucker,
Lauren Newman,
Charisma Taylor, and Gaffney posted a mark of 46.19 seconds to claim the top prize in the event.Â
The WSU men began the Invitational with a strong start in the hammer throw as
Brock Eager won the event with a season-best throw of 224-feet 11 inches (68.56-meters), and fellow Cougar
Amani Brown finished in second overall with a throw of 199-feet 5 inches (60.79m) as well. Washington State dominated the 4x100 relay race as the team of
Emmanuel Wells Jr.,
Ja'Maun Charles,
Ethan Gardner, and
Ray Littles went on to set a new meet record at 40.47 seconds. Charles picked up another win for the Cougars in the 100-meter dash with a mark of 10.63 seconds as well.Â
The Cougars added additional wins during the day in the high jump as
Peyton Fredrickson recorded a mark of 6-feet 9-inches (2.06m),
Joseph Heitman took first in the long jump at 21-feet 10 inches (6.65m),
Jake Ulrich ran through the competition in the 400-meter dash at 47.44 seconds, and finally
Nick Johnson placed first overall in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.35 seconds to see Washington State's overall win total up to 13 on the day.Â

Washington State Track and Field will be back in action next, Friday, March 29 as the Cougars will head out to multiple events over the weekend. WSU will compete at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival, the Stanford Invitational, and the UCLA Legends Invitational over multiple days in the state of California during the third week of the outdoor season.Â
