Women's Golf Starts The New Year With a Win Over Colorado State
February 10, 2019 | Women's Golf
The Cougs won a head-to-head matchup with the Rams in Vegas.
LAS VEGAS - After a long winter away from the course the Washington State women's golf team got back on track Sunday afternoon with an impressive head-to-head win over Colorado State in Las Vegas. The two teams played head-to-head in stroke play at the Canyon Gate Country Club with each team playing 18 holes. Originally the event was scheduled for two rounds but some challenging weather and conditions shortened the day to just 18 holes.
With their full roster on the course including the newest Cougar, Darcy Habgood, WSU shook off whatever winter rust they may have brought with them to the desert and came up with a 24 stroke win over the Rams. Taking the top four scores from each team, the Cougars ended the round +24 while the Rams mustered a +48.Â
For the Cougs, senior Madison Odiorne came up with the best score of the day among all players on the course as the fourth-year standout shot a four-over, 76. Right behind the senior, freshman Amy Chu picked up where she left off in the fall with a 78 while Marie Lund-Hansen and Emily Baumgart came in to the clubhouse with a 79 on their scorecards.
Outside of the counting four, Elodie Bridenne finished her day with an 80 while Habgood ended her first collegiate round with an 83. Rounding out the day for WSU was Cameron March who recorded an 86 on the course.Â
With their first event of the spring complete the Cougars will turn their attention back to tournament golf as WSU tees off the spring tournament season in Peoria, Ariz at the Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin. The two-day tournament will take place at the Westbrook Village Golf Club from Feb. 24-25.
