WSU Rolls Through McNeese State in Cougar Challenge

WHO WHAT WHEN WHERE…
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The No. 23 ranked Washington State volleyball team (5-0) continued its' offensive surge on the season, defeating non-conference opponent McNeese State to begin play in the 2018 Cougar Challenge at Bohler Gym.
The Cougars remain perfect on the season after the WSU offensive as a whole guided the team to victory over the Cowgirls, hitting .395 overall in three total sets.Â
Set scores for the match were: 25-17, 25-17, 25-15.
Set number one saw the Cougars dominate early on, jumping out to a 19-10 advantage against MSU. However McNeese State complied a 7-4 run late in the set, but not before WSU would shut that down after an ace from Penny Tusa, along with back-to-back kills from seniors Claire Martin, and McKenna Woodford.Â
Washington State continued to surge ahead of the Cowgirls in set two, holding a 20-10 lead late in the set, which saw big kills from Jocelyn Urias, and Taylor Mims. The Cougars sealed off the set win over MSU at 25-17 to take a big 2-0 match advantage.Â
The final set in this contest was all WSU, after a kill from Woodford extended the Cougar lead out to 21-10, the largest of the match. Washington State went on to notch win number five on the year, and remain perfect with the 25-15 set win after a kill from Ella Lajos capped off the victory.Â

McKenna Woodford finished the match with a season high attack percentage of .471, along with nine kills, one ace, and one dig.

NOTES…
- Cougars improve to 5-0 on the season for the first time since 2013 when the Cougars rolled off 14-straight wins to begin the year.
- The Cougars outhit the Cowgirls .395-to-.167, and recorded more kills than MSU, 45-to-22.
- The attack percentage of .395 as a team is the highest this season for the Cougars.
- Junior Ashley Brown posted a match-high 34 assists.
- Offensively WSU was led in kills by both Woodford, and Mims with nine each.Â
