Tough conditions made for a tough day on the course.
KANEOHE BAY, HI. - Taking on tough conditions, a tough field, and a tough course at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, the Washington State women's golf team closed out the opening day of the two-day tournament in ninth place overall after completing 36-holes of action Tuesday in Hawaii. The Cougars carded back to back 315's and are 54-over par heading into the final day of action Wednesday. No. 6 Texas leads the tournament at 13-over par while No. 17 Oklahoma State is second at 27-over.
Individually, senior Alivia Brown led the Cougar and finds herself in the top-15 and in a tie for 14th overall as the fourth-year ace completed her first 36-holes of play at nine-over. The senior opened the tournament firing off a 75 (+3) before struggling slightly on her second-go around the course in the afternoon with a 78 (+6). For the day, Brown came up with a pair of birdies in her first round of action, but saw no red in the late part of the day. She and the rest of the field look up at No. 25 Kaitlyn Papp of Texas who took her one-over into the clubhouse at the end of Tuesday's action.
The Cougars and the rest of the field will tee off the final day of play at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Wednesday, March 13 in a shotgun format beginning at 8 a.m HT.
