The Cougars travel to Federal Way, Wash. for the Pac-12 Conference Championships Wednesday, Feb. 21 - Saturday, Feb. 24.
COUGARS AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Last season, the Cougars finished eighth at the Pac-12 Championships and set four school records. The Cougars also recorded 12 WSU Top-10 times. The Cougars highest finish at the Pac-12 Championships came in the 2015-16 season, when the Cougars finished seventh with 477 points.
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
Washington State swimming team fell to Utah Feb. 10, 187-75. The Cougars posted top-3 finishes in 11 events and received wins from freshman Emily Cook and junior Jasmine Margetts. Cook recorded a victory in the 50 back and a second place finish in the 100 back. Margetts improved to 11 wins this season with a first place finish in the 100 fly. Margetts also took home a fourth place finish in the 100 back. Senior Rachel Thompson placed second in two individual events: 100 and 200 free. Alba Fores also recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free. Sophomore Ryan Falk had two third-place finishes: 200 free and 500 free. Linnea Lindberg and Taylor McCoy placed third in the 50 breast and 400 IM, respectively.
Emily Cook MAKES A STRONG IMPACT
Freshman Emily Cook is having an outstanding rookie campaign, leading the way for newcomers in individual wins with eight this season. Cook currently holds the school and Gibb Pool record in the 100 back with times of 53.70 and 54.51, respectively. Cook's time of 53.70 is 13th fastest overall in the Pac-12, fastest time posted by a freshman in the event this season, an NCAA "B" Standard time, and the 12th fastest time for a freshman in the NCAA. Cook's career-best time in the 200 back (2:00.15) is ninth fastest in program history and 30th fastest in the Pac-12 this season. Cook is also a member of five winning relays for the Cougars.
PAC-12 TOP TIMES
Currently, seven athletes hold Top-30 times in the Pac-12 Conference. Jasmine Margetts posts Top-30 times in five events. Margetts' is 21st (1000 free) and 28th (100 and 200 back) in the conference. Margetts hit two NCAA "B" Standard times in the 200 fly and 400 IM, clocking in at 1:59.09 and 4:17.21 - 26th and 21st in the Pac-12, respectively. Alba Fores is in the Top-30 in three events: 100 free (25th), 500 free (30th), and 1650 free (23rd). Newcomers Mackenzie Duarte and Clothilde Preseux hold Top-30 spots in two events each. Duarte holds 21st and 25th in the 200 breast 100 breast, respectivel, while Peseux holds 27th and 24th in the same events. Ryan Falk, Sam Howell, Taylor McCoy, and Linnea Lindberg each hold a Top-30 time in an event. Falk is 24th in the 1650 free while Howell is 26th. Pullman, Wash. native McCoy posts the 21st fastest time in the conference and fifth fastest for a freshmen this season in the 200 back. Lindberg is 30th in the 100 breast.
