Cougars Break School Record at Pac-12 Championships
February 21, 2018 | Swimming
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team broke the school record in the 800 Free Relay on the first day of the Pac-12 Conference Championships. The Cougars currently sit seventh after day one of competition with 92 points.
"The Cougs swam strong tonight," said head coach Tom Jager. "We had a great start by having three very good medley relays. Then we finished the night with great effort in the 800 free relay. In Coug fashion, everyone lifted and we had one swimmer from each class; and they crushed the school record. It was a fun night to be a Coug."
Washington State set a school record in the 800 Free relay when the quartet of freshman Alba Fores, senior Rachel Thompson, junior Jasmine Margetts, and sophomore Ryan Falk touched the wall in 7:12.87, surpassing the previous record that was set last year at conference championships by nearly two seconds. The team placed seventh in the event, garnering 46 points for the Cougars.
In the 200 Medley Relay, the team of Emily Cook, Linnea Lindberg, Anna Brolin, and Chloe Larson clocked in at 1:39.43, just missing the school record mark of 1:39.13. The team placed seventh in the event, earning 46 points. Not far behind were teammates Margetts, Clothilde Peseux, Kelly Morgan, and Ciera Kelly who clocked in at 1:42.11.
The Cougars will return to the pool tomorrow to continue the Pac-12 Conference Championships with the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, and 200 Free Relay.
