February 22, 2018 | Swimming
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team completed day two of the Pac-12 Conference Championships Thursday. The Cougars currently sit eighth with 142 overall points.
"Good swimming tonight by the Cougs," said head coach Tom Jager. "Jasmine represented well on the 200 IM with a best time tonight. Then we finished up with a strong 200 Free Relay. It was a pretty young relay and they just missed the school record."
Jasmine Margetts placed 21st in the 200 IM with a season best time of 2:01.57. Margetts' time marks her third NCAA "B" Standard time this season, as she set times in the 200 fly and 400 IM earlier this year. Taylor McCoy, Clothilde Peseux, and Mackenzie Duarte competed in the 200 IM preliminaries. McCoy touched the wall in 2:04.83, Peseux in 2:04.85 – a season best time, and Duarte clocked in at 2:08.31.
In the 200 Free Relay, the team of Kelly Morgan, Chloe Larson, Anna Brolin, and Alba Fores clocked in at 1:31.24, just missing the school record mark of 1:31.09. The team placed seventh in the event, earning 46 points. Not far behind were teammates Rachel Thompson, Ciera Kelly, Penny Nichols, and Talisa Wibmer who clocked in at 1:33.51.
Ten Cougars hit season best marks in their respective events. Freshman Kelly Morgan led the way for the Cougars in the 50 free, clocking in a season best time of 23.25 for the sixth fastest time in program history. Chloe Larson (23.34), Talisa Wibmer (23.34), Ciera Kelly (23.86), and Emily Cook (24.18) all hit season best marks. Sophomore Ryan Falk led the way in the 500 free, clocking in a season best 4:50.49 for the fifth fastest time in program history. Rachel Thompson (4:52.75), Sam Howell (4:55.85), and Maia Petrides (5:13.29) all hit season best marks in the 500 free.
The Cougars will continue the Pac-12 Conference Championships with the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 400 Medley Relay.
