Emily Cook Breaks School Record at Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – The Washington State swim team completed day three of the Pac-12 Conference Championships Friday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. Freshman Emily Cook broke the school record in the 100 back for the second time this season while 12 other Cougars recorded season-best times in their respective events. The Cougars currently sit eighth with 230 points.
"We swam pretty well today," said head coach Tom Jager. "Jasmine started the night off with a good swim in the 400 IM. Then we followed it up with some very good breaststroke swims in the 100. Emily swam great in the morning and broke her own school record – that was good to see. We are looking forward to a good day tomorrow."
Freshman Emily Cook notched the record setting time in the preliminary round of the 100 back with a time of 53.66. This is the second time this season Cook has broken the school record in the event. In the finals, Cook finished 11th with a time of 53.74, marking her the third fastest freshman in the event. Not far behind were teammates Taylor McCoy and Talisa Wibmer. McCoy clocked in at 56.52 and Wibmer clocked in a season-best 56.51.
Jasmine Margetts hit an NCAA "B" Standard time for the second time at the championships. Her time of 4:16.91 in the 400 IM is a season-best and placed her 20th, earning five points for the Cougars.
12 Cougars hit season best marks in their respective events. Senior Anna Brolin led the way in the 100 fly, clocking in a season best time of 54.87. Penny Nichols (56.19), Ciera Kelly (56.31), and Kelly Morgan (57.00) all hit season best marks. Freshman Alba Fores led the way in the 200 free, clocking in a season-best time of 1:48.49 for the fourth fastest time in program history. Rachel Thompson moved her way up in the books, notching a fifth fastest time with 1:48.87. Sam Howell and Maia Petrides each hit season best marks with 1:51.77 and 1:55.73, respectively.
Clothilde Peseux, Mackenzie Duarte, and Linnea Lindberg all hit season best marks in the preliminary round of the 100 breast. Peseux led the way with the sixth fastest time in program history, touching the way in 1:02.33, Duarte notched the seventh fastest time in program history with 1:02.83, and Lindberg clocked in at 1:03.31. In the finals, Peseuz finished 16th with a time of 1:02.89, Duarte placed 19th, and Lindberg placed 22nd.
The Cougars finished the day placing seventh in the 400 Medley Relay. Freshman Emily Cook, junior transfer Clothilde Peseux, and freshmen Alba Fores and Kelly Morgan clocked in at 3:41.83.
The Cougars will return to action for the final day of the Pac-12 Championships Saturday with the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, and 400 Free Relay.
