Chu Ties for First After Round One in Colorado
October 05, 2018 | Women's Golf
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo.  – Behind the play of their freshman Amy Chu, the Washington State women's golf team completed round one of the Ron Moore Women's Invitational in third place after carding a 295(+7). Putting together the best round of the day in Colorado, the Australian native made her way into the clubhouse with a share of the tournament lead after posting a two-under, 70, Friday afternoon. As a team the Cougars and trail Colorado State (-2) and Kansas (+3) after 18 holes of play.
Â
Using four birdies in the first round of the invitational, Chu put herself atop the leaderboard alongside of Colorado State's Saga Traustadotti. It was the second time the freshman played her way under-par, one shot back of her second round 69 two weeks ago in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.  Chu finished the Cougars' last tournament in a tie for 13th place, just missing the first top-10 finish of her young career.
Â
Senior Madison Odiorne and juniors Marie Lund-Hansen and Elodie Bridenne are tied for 27th after one round of play with a 75(+3). Redshirt-sophomore Emily Baumgart completed day one with a 78(+6). Freshman Cameron March made her first appearance of her career, competing as an individual. March carded an 80(+8) over one round of play.
"Condition were tough today with swirling wind and challenging hole locations" said head coach Kelli Kamimura. "We didn't get off to a hot start, but we finished the round strong. I am proud of how the team stayed focused and fought for every shot. We are looking forward to getting back out on the course for round two tomorrow."
