WSU Swimming kicks off the new year with a home meet against ASU Saturday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m.

THIS WEEK
The Washington State swim team welcomes Pac-12 foe Arizona State to Gibb Pool Saturday, Jan. 13. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m., and will be webstreamed at wsucougars.com.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
This will be the seventh time the Cougars and Sun Devils will be meeting in the regular season. The Cougars have won the past two meets against the Sun Devils, with the last meeting coming Oct. 22, 2015 when WSU defeated ASU 115-90. This will be Arizona State's first trip to Pullman since Oct. 24, 2014, when the Cougars won 155.5106.5. The Sun Devils hold a 4-2 advantage over the Cougars.
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
The Cougars competed in mid-November at the Ohio State Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. The team finished ninth overall with 13 WSU Top-10 Times in eight different events. Emily Cook etched her name into the record book at the competition, clocking in at 53.70 in the 100 Back, breaking the school record.
COUGARS HEAD EAST FOR WINTER BREAK
WSU traveled east during winter break to Delray Beach, Fla. to train for 10 days. The Cougars spend the days training both in the pool and on the beach to build muscle and endurance. The trip marked the fifth consecutive year the team trained in Florida over winter break.
MARGETTS COMPETES IN USA COLLEGE CHALLENGE
Jasmine Margetts was selected to compete in the USA College Challenge Oct. 21 and 22, 2017. Margetts had an outstanding performance, setting season best times in the 100 and 200 back, and the 1000 free. Margetts also posted the third fastest time in program history in the 1000 free.
NEWCOMERS MAKING A SPLASH
The newcomers continue to have outstanding performances in the pool; combining for a total of 10 individual wins in the first three meets of the season. Emily Cook leads the way for the newcomers with six individual wins, including the 100 back against No. 24 Arizona with a time that falls into the NCAA "B" standard time. Cook is also a member of four winning relays. Clothilde Peseux has two individual wins on the season. Sam Howell and Taylor McCoy have one win each.
INCOMING COUGARS
Six incoming student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to the Washington State swimming team. The 2018 signing class is comprised of Sophia Balmaceda (Fremont, Calif.), Emily Barrier (Fort Collins, Colo.), Payton Bokowy (Sandpoint, Idaho), Keiana Fountain (Tracy, Calif.), Paige Gardner (Walla Walla, Wash.), Hailey Hyde (Bend, Ore.), and Olivia Tungate (Oak Harbor, Wash.).
