Cougar Swimming Falls to No. 25 Arizona State

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Cougars dropped a Pac-12 Conference meet to No. 25 Arizona State, 177-83 at Gibb Pool Saturday. Junior Jasmine Margetts led the Cougars in scoring with 15 points, while freshman Alba Fores finished with eight.
Margetts impressed in the 200 fly, finishing first with a season-best time of 2:01.18, her fourth win in the event this season. Margetts also finished second in the 200 back and fourth in the 200 IM; clocking in at 2:01.45 and 2:07.22, respectively.
Freshman Taylor McCoy, sophomore Ryan Falk, and senior Rachel Thompson each added five points to the Cougars' score. McCoy placed third in the 200 back and fourth in the 100 back, clocking in at 2:02.25 and 58.42, respectively. Falk finished third in the 500 free and fourth in the 1000 free with times of 5:01.91 and 10:20.65, respectively. Thompson placed third in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free, clocking in at 1:51.91 and 52.42, respectively. Senior Talisa Wibmer recorded a season best in the 100 back (1:01.14) and junior Penny Nichols also recorded a season best in the 50 free (24.38).
The freshmen had a great showing for the Cougars, ending the meet with four Top-3 finishes. Fores placed second in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:51.21 and later added another second-place finish in the 100 free, touching in 52.06. Emily Cook added a second place finish, clocking in at 55.01 in the 100 back. Kelly Morgan added a fourth place finish in the 50 free with a time of 24.26, while Chloe Larson clocked in at 24.35 for fifth. Mackenzie Duarte clocked in a season-best 1:05.88 in the 100 breast for fourth place, and 2:22.00 in the 200 breast for fifth.
Arizona State's Chloe Isleta set a Gibb Pool record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.13.
The Cougars will be back in Gibb Pool Jan. 26 for a Pac-12 Conference meet against Oregon State. The meet is set to begin at 5 p.m.
