PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State track and field competitors won or had the top marks in four of the five events completed Friday night during the first of two days of competition at the 16th Annual WSU Open Indoor meet in the Indoor Facility in Pullman.
Katie Nageotte, a volunteer coach for WSU who competes professionally, won the women's pole vault with a meet record and personal-record height of 15-feet, 7 1/4 inches (4.76m), a mark that is second-best in the United States and tied for second in the World rankings for this year. Nageotte smashed the previous meet record of 13-7 1/4 (4.15m) set by another WSU volunteer coach, Ebbie Metzinger, in 2005. WSU's
Molly Scharmann (Rs-So., Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was the runner-up with a PR height of 13-1 1/2 (4.00m), the sixth-best women's pole vault in WSU history.
Emily Coombs (Fr., Santa Ana, Calif.) took fourth place with a PR bar clearance at 12-1 1/2 (3.70m).
Brock Eager (Rs-Jr., Renton) won the men's 35-pound weight throw with a season-best throw of 65-4 1/4 (19.92m).
Amani Brown (Rs-Jr., Seattle) was the runner-up with a PR heave of 60-6 1/2 (18.45m) and
Tyler Jackson (Rs-Sr., Richland) finished sixth with a PR toss of 49-1 3/4 (14.98m).
Aoife Martin (Rs-So., Seattle) won the women's 20-pound weight throw with a PR throw of 56-6 1/2 (17.23m), a slight improvement over her season-opening throw last week and still the eighth-best throw in WSU history.
Stacia Bell (So., White Salmon, Wash.) had a season-best throw of 46-5 1/4 (14.15m).
Coug alum
Kiana Davis won the women's triple jump with a meet record distance of 42-1 1/2 (12.84m), breaking her own 2017 WSU Open record of 41-0 1/2 (12.51m). A trio of current Cougs finished right behind Davis.
Oyinlola Akinlosotu (Fr., Federal Way, Wash.) was the runner-up with a PR leap of 39-7 1/4 (12.07m),
Greer Alsop (Rs-Sr., Invercargill, New Zealand) was third with her season-opening leap of 39-3 3/4 (11.98m), and transfer
Brittni Williams (Jr., Auburn, Wash.) was fourth with a PR jump of 38-7 (11.76m).
Eastern Washington's Keshun McGee won the men's triple jump with a meet record leap of 50-8 1/4 (15.45m), surpassing EWU's Kurt Kraemer's 2003 mark of 50-0 1/2 (15.25m). WSU's
Jeremiah Stone (Fr., Seattle) placed fifth with a PR of 46-0 1/2 (14.03m).
