September 18, 2017 | Women's Golf
The Cougs hold the lead after 36 holes at the WSU Cougar Cup.
PULLMAN, Wash. - Despite battling cold temperatures and rain throughout the first day of their own WSU Cougar Cup, the Washington State women's golf team finds itself in prime position to claim their home tournament title after 36 holes at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Putting together two solid rounds, the Cougs sit alone at the top of the leaderboard as the only team under-par on day one having posted a combined 574, -2.
The Cougs took the lead into the clubhouse thanks to four top-10 day one individual finishes. Leading the way, senior Alivia Brown came up with the top score through 36 holes after going three-under par by following up a first round 71 with a second round 70. The Cougar standout will take a two-shot lead into the final round of action Tuesday Trying to chase down Brown is her classmate and fellow captain, Bree Wanderscheid, who closed out the day at one-under par with a combined score of 143. Wandersheid is tied with two others in the standings.
Just behind the Coug seniors sits Marie Lund-Hansen in a tie for fifth at even-par while Madison Odiorne closed out in a tie for eighth at two-over. With the four Cougs taking advantage of their course knowledge, WSU holds a 10-stroke lead over Sacramento State which the Cougs will play alongside of Tuesday morning.
The final round of the WSU Cougar Cup is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. However, thunderstorms are in the forecast which may alter the scheduled start. The tournament can be tracked live on GolfStat.com.
